Video Button or Video Box option Empty Video Button or Video Box option

Post by excitejack211 Thu 16 Apr - 19:51

This bug is found in Ant Download Manager 1.17.4.

In the latest version of the Ant Download Manager Chrome extension, v0.4.27, the is an option for videos to be shown with either a Video Button or Video Box.

I personally like the Video Button around around the top left of the video where I can click to download the video if I so wish, or ignore if I don't want to download it.

However, in the Firefox Ant Download Manager add-on, v0.1.3, there is no such option of  Video Button or Video Box. Instead Firefox always shows a Video Box near the video files, to allow me to download it.

I don't like this because its always in the way and I need to always clear it from view.

Why in't the Firefox add-on consistent with the Chrome extension, and offer customers a choice of either a Video Button or Video Box.

Video Button or Video Box option Empty Re: Video Button or Video Box option

The user is often asked this question. It would probably be worth it to add it to the FAQ.

In the old version of Firefox (XPCOM API support) was Video Button, but it was not in Firefox Quantum (WebExtension API support).
The reason is that WebExtension API is much weaker than that of Chrome. It does not have all the features that has Chrome API.
It was an attempt to make Video Button for Firefox, but it did not work properly, much worse than the Chrome Video Button.
That is why due to the weakness of Firefox API the Firefox addon looks poorer than the extension of Chrome.

Thank you for good question!

PS A small addition. Often due to certain features of the Video Box is able to capture more video than Video Button.

Not great.

Also, is there a native Wndows x64 bit build of Ant Download Manager?

I ask because I see it installs into the \Program Files (x86)\ folder on my x64 Windows 8.1 Pro system.

No! Why do you need AntDM x64?

x64 will not run faster, but it will be larger in size! Bottleneck is the network speed, not the memory access speed.

I don't NEED an x64 build, but I just wanted to know if there was such a build so that I could run it natively on my x64 system, that's all....

I am having trouble getting the Video Button to show up on a lot of YouTube videos.
I changed to Video Box, and they do show up in places where the Video Button does not show up in.

Why is that the case?

The Video Button should show up exactly where a Video Box shows up.

Because Video Button is not part of the html web code and it does not follow html markup.
Video Button based on the behavior of the video frames that generates internal engine chrome. This can sometimes give the wrong result.

In addition, the extension can not always correctly find the frame for current video stream and the parent browser tab.
Because of this button may not be displayed. Video Box does not have this problem and can show the capture of such video.

Thanks for that.

I have found another issue, this time on the latest v1.17.5 Beta.

When I download anything, the web browser always send the file off to ADM and then shows about:blank page. Why?

It should just send the download to ADM and then just keep that present page open, instead of always getting redirected to about:blank page.

My issue happens in Chrome 81.0.4044.122 (x64).
The other thread didn't give me any answers...

What can I do solve this issue?

I can not reproduce blank page with your test link on chrome 81 x32, x64 on win7 and win10.
Try to reproduce by disable antdm extension, disable AD blocker, reinstall antdm pre-clear all settings "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ant Download Manager\unins000.exe"

Do you use Google Chrome (not Vivaldi, Opera, Edge, etc chromium based) ?

I've changed a lot of settings....

I'll test on VM now.

Perhaps one of the settings has led to such a result. In this case, you can not say the error.
Usually, to find out the problem, I suggest users to reset antdm to its initial state (this is clear setting by re-install).
If, after this it starts working properly, then the problem is in the settings.

You can try to experiment on a different computer, or on a virtual machine.

I just installed on a clean virtual machine and tried with Firefox Quantum 75.0 (x64), and the issue did NOT occur.

Perhaps that other threat needs to do the same?

Firefox is another question, another problem as I wrote before.

I have just retested this, and the issue STILL occurs.

I uninstalled ADM and then uninstalled the browser extension.
I then cleaned registry with Wise Registry Cleaner and CCleaner.
I then went to look for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AntGROUP\Downloader] in the registry, but the AntGROUP entry wasn't there.
I then rebooted and then installed ADM again.
I then reinstalled the browser extension.

I then retested, and the issue remains like it was before.
So the problem remains.....now what?
